Frequently Asked Questions
Is Family TaeKwonDo for children?
Absolutely! Many of the founders of the school have families and make Taekwondo a family activity. Martial Arts training is an excellent way to develop DISCIPLINE and COORDINATION in a setting that builds RESPECT for others. SELF CONFIDENCE is improved by eliminating fear and through learning new skills. Sparring is a part of some classes but is not required and we do not require participation in tournaments.
How does advancement work?
Family TaeKwonDo uses the traditional belt system to recognize advancement. Students begin as white belts and progress through the colors to black belt (and beyond). This system provides the student with a series of small steps that build on skills already learned. The advancement is through testing of specified skills at each level. Included in the testing is knowledge of the history and customs of Taekwondo including Korean terms and rules of the school. The belts provide a visible and tangible measure of a students progress. Learning new skills, developing physical fitness and flexibility and having fun are the real benefits of Martial Arts.
Students may test for their next belt every 90 days. In general, it will take two to three years to earn a black belt.
